Project Basement!

It is official! I am beginning my basement redo this weekend! I am very
excited because my basement is OUT OF CONTROL! Like many basements it is
dark, cold, and my LEAST favorite place to be. My goal is to brighten the place up
and make it a bit more inviting. I have chosen to start with the laundry room
(okay, its more like a laundry "area") because I hate doing laundry!! I am hoping that if I
make it look nice, maybe I will want to spend more time down there. Here's to wishful thinking!!

Here is just some of the inspiration for the "laundry room"

This fantastic "unfinished" laundry room sparked this whole project. It caught my attention because my washer and dryer are mismatched just like these! I love how bright the space looks with that amazing teal!

Obviously, I am not buying a new washer and dryer! But after seeing this photo, I decided to go for a bold color rather then my original idea of painting my washer and dryer black.

I stopped by Lowe's on my way home tonight and spent WAY to much time and money! Here are just a few things I picked up...

As you can tell, there is a whole lot of painting in my future...

The first project on the agenda, painting the washer and dryer. My washer and dryer are both old and could really use some attention. I plan on priming them, then painting them that amazing green you see above. What really bummed me out was the fact that the green only came in a flat finish, so I had to purchase a can of clear enamel top coat.

My second project is to refinish some cabinets. Friends of ours gave us a set of cabinets that were in their camp but it looked like the have never been used! They were in great shape but I really wanted to brighten up the basement so I am going to paint them a light teal. You can't see the swatch that well but its called "Beach Sparkle" and its very similar to that can of blue spray paint.
As I have mention in previous posts, I love DIY but I am all about taking the easy way out. Since these cabinets will be in my basement, I am not concerned about them being perfect. I plan on priming with bonding primer, then painting them.

PHEW! I hope that I can get those two projects done. If by some miracle I finish early, I have two lights that I want to paint teal (hence the teal spray paint) but the details for that will come another day.
